Bournemouth

It reached a high of 28 degrees in London this week, twice! So we decided to head to the beach for the day. Hiring a car from Kendall Cars for £30, packed sandwiches, kombucha, and M&M’s we ventured our way out to the South of England. A bit more chilly with the ocean breeze, the sun was thankfully still beaming and radiating on our fair, pandemic, vitamin D lacking skin. Hengistbury Head was our first stop and we were pleasantly surprised, the stretch of beach and cliffs reminded us of the Fleurieu peninsula in Adelaide, a nice taste of home after a tough couple of months in lockdown. After our Brighton beach day trip we really had no expectation to see any semi decent beach’s with sand while in England, but we did! After walking to the head of the cliff we found some great patches of beach with proper sand! Making our way down and around we stumbled upon an epic stretch of beach with cute beach shacks that we will definitely be back to on a warmer day to swim and spend the day at (Mudeford Sandbank).

A lot of my work friends had recommended to head down to Bournemouth, so it was our next stop. Obviously not normal times but it seemed like a quieter version of Glenelg - Adelaide (especially because of the Ferris wheel right in front of the pier/jetty at the beach). It didn’t live up to the hype, the sandy beach was average. I personally would much prefer the less crowded, more pristine location of Mudeford Sandbank (however harder to get to). I think it’s the most popular beach for Londoners to head to as its an easy 2hr train trip right to the beach with decent sand. I don’t blame them, I’d go extra hour rather than sunbake on rocks at Brighton, ha-ha!
