Cinque Terre

Cinque Terre means 'five lands' in Italian. The five villages that make up Cinque Terre on the North-West coast of Italy are; Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore. Transport between the villages was very easy and accessible with frequent trains stopping at each village. With a purchase of a train ticket you could also receive access to the walking trails between the villages which makes a great hike. We stayed in Vernazza (located close to the middle of the five villages) so split the hike over two days walking North toward Monterosso and then South to Manarola. Another great way of getting around, but more expensive was the ferry that runs on the hour allowing you to take in the mountainous landscape and rolling hills of Cinque Terre from the Ocean.

If we weren't hiking, we were swimming, if we weren't swimming we would be eating pizza, if we weren't eating pizza we were most definitely eating gelato! I think that's what everyone's summer trip to Italy generally looks like! Our favourite village was Manarola with epic swimming spots, cliff jumps and magical scenes especially at sunset!
