Dover

We’re out to enjoy another sunny weekend, this time to Dover in the South-East of England with our Kiwi neighbours Sam and Dan! Mark's wishful thinking was to fill the day up with an 18km coastal cliff hike (plus a 1hr 40 min drive there and back), however with a little bit of a sleep in and a long line at the bakery we fell behind and had to cut it down to about 7km. As soon as we got on the trail, the scenery was absolutely jaw-dropping. We stopped for a picnic lunch, admired every cliff edge (for too long if you ask Mikaela) and flew the drones. The first 1km took us nearly 2 hours to complete, it was clear that we were never going to make the 18km in one day when you could just gaze out over the English Channel towards France on the edge of the white cliffs of Dover.

To end the day we decided to swim at a rare, sandy beach the next town over - Folkestone. Lo and behold it was actually quite a decent beach for English standards! We found some dinner and were surprised at how cool and hip the town was, with an array of different coloured buildings, quirky shops and generally letting off a cool vibe through the streets, even though most things were shut. We have put Folkestone on the list to come back to on a "hot" summer day to enjoy the beach and the vibes, what a cool hidden gem!
