Durdle Door
A two and a half hour drive from London and we weren’t disappointed…kind of. This is so far my favourite day trip in England despite the overcast, windy and drizzly 18-degree day. We didn’t dare to jump into the water but made the most of the day by hiking through the back end of the entry to Durdle Door up the rolling hills, across to Bat’s Head and back along the coast to loop through Durdle Door and Man O’War Beach. There’s so much to see here, so a long weekend is definitely in store to explore more of the coast and maybe even walk the whole South East corner of the park. What looked like would be a good walk along the coast to Lulworth Cove, we decided to drive the car around 10 minutes to save some time backtracking to the car. The quiet little town with its protected waters, jagged white cliffs and look out over the cove was spectacular. It's definitely a good alternative option on a hot summer day to being packed in like Sardines at Durdle Door.
The only disappointing part of the day was seeing how much rubbish was left everywhere (from the two previous days of 28 degrees with large crowds). Is this an English thing? It seems like a common occurrence from seeing the parks, commons and other beaches on the South Coast after a few hot days and crowds.
